The Violent Femmes and Banger Sisters continued their winning streaks at the second bout of the season and emerge as favorites to contend in this year's championship
Starting the punk rock themed night, the Bangers took an early lead outscoring the Delta Delta Di's 4:1 in the first half. Katarina Hit started the night off with a power jam after Deltas took their first of many trips to the box. Minnie Assaultah of the Bangers attributed their early lead to strong defensive walls, and playing smart while Gigi Whiz added that the score reflected their good team work. In the second half the Deltas made valiant strides to closing the point gap but were rebuffed, giving the win to the Bangers in the end with a score of 134-62. The black and blue award of the night goes to shE. Coli after taking a hit in the second half that introduced her pretty face to the floor; but in true punk fashion she didn't miss a beat even though she took a beating and got right back in the game! Another highlight of the second half included improved blocking by sophomore Banger skater Kitinboots, maintaining track position through hits from powerhouses Slasha Veinforya and Jawbreaker.
In the second bout of the night, the Violent Femmes took a strong lead keeping the Kilmore Girls to two points for the first 10 minutes of the first half. Despite the efforts of Kilmore skaters like Marge Hadron Collider, who tore up the track on a power jam, Kilmores landed far behind the Femmes at the half, scoring 22 to the Femmes 85. "The Femmes are playing smart and communicating well," shared Giggity, a former Kilmore now current Femmes player. "We have great track awareness tonight." The femmes extended their lead in the second half finishing at 179-47. Highlights of the bout included performances by Femmes jammer Ida Kilher scoring 39 points during two power jams at the beginning of the second half, and Kilmore Girls jammers Razor Cakes and rookie Red Panda, showing tenacity and great footwork in the second half.
Join us for our next bout January 18, at the Convention Center to see the Femmes battle the Bangers and the Kilmores take on the Deltas. Our third bout of the season will be themed Queen of Hurts: You're late! You're late! For a very important skate! Don't miss it!
